Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the 24th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, sending Rs 2,000 each to more than 9.34 crore farmer families across India.
Modi released the money on Friday, October 30, 2026, during a programme at Bhildi in Banaskantha district, Gujarat, on the first day of a two-day visit to the state. The transfer goes directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts, with no middlemen involved.
What happened
The 24th instalment is part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), the central government’s income-support scheme for landholding farmer families. Under the scheme, eligible families receive Rs 6,000 a year in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000.
The total released in this round is more than Rs 18,690 crore, according to the government figures cited in ministry briefings ahead of the event. Some news reports round the same total up to Rs 19,000 crore; the per-farmer amount of Rs 2,000 and the beneficiary count of more than 9.34 crore are consistent across the reports.
Modi announced the release while addressing a public gathering in Banaskantha, where he also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs 14,000 crore. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took part in a parallel programme in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, marking the same release.
What farmers get
Each eligible farmer family receives Rs 2,000 in this instalment, paid through Direct Benefit Transfer into the bank account registered with the scheme. It is the third and final instalment of the current annual cycle for most beneficiaries, following the same Rs 2,000 pattern as earlier rounds.
The previous instalment, the 23rd, was released on June 20, 2026, and benefited around 9.44 crore farmers, according to reports of that release. The slightly lower count this time — more than 9.34 crore — reflects the current list of eligible, verified beneficiaries, not a change in the per-family amount, which remains Rs 2,000.
Farmers who have not received the money should first check whether their details are complete: land records seeded on the portal, bank account linked, and eKYC done. Missing any of these is the most common reason for a delayed or missed instalment, and the scheme’s own guidance says eKYC is compulsory for registered farmers.
The Gujarat visit
The PM-KISAN release opened a packed two-day Gujarat programme. Before the Bhildi event, Modi visited the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC) cattle farm and the Embryo Transfer Technology-In Vitro Fertilisation (ET-IVF) laboratory in Banaskantha.
The BBBRC at Bhildi is spread across 127 acres and is described as a Centre of Excellence. It is the country’s first facility of its kind dedicated to the Kankrej cattle breed, and it is expected to speed up breed improvement by 10 to 20 times through advanced reproductive technology. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi were present during the visit.
Among the projects announced in Banaskantha are two Bio-CNG plants for Banas Dairy at Tharad and Radhanpur, with cattle-dung processing capacities of 75 metric tonnes and 100 metric tonnes a day respectively. Modi also laid foundation stones for Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2A, covering more than 6 km with five stations from Koteshwar Road to the airport, and Phase-2B, spanning more than 3.3 km with three stations from GIFT City to Shahpur.
Other announcements included widening Ahmedabad-Mehsana Road (State Highway-41) from four lanes to eight lanes at an estimated cost of around Rs 2,600 crore; foundation stones for 4,030 new child-friendly Anganwadi centres and the inauguration of 361 completed centres, an investment of Rs 800 crore expected to benefit more than four lakh people; and 521 projects completed under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, worth around Rs 4,950 crore, covering cold storage, cold chains, warehouses, silos, polyhouses and processing facilities.
Modi also flagged off the Ahmedabad (Sabarmati)-Varanasi Express and the Mehsana-Becharaji-Sabarmati MEMU train services. Later on Friday he was due to travel to Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, to inaugurate Bharat Parv 2026 and attend the Narmada Aarti, ahead of National Unity Day celebrations on October 31 marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
What Modi said about farmers and MSP
In his Banaskantha address, Modi accused previous governments of misleading farmers over the Minimum Support Price (MSP), saying his government had consistently prioritised farmers’ welfare and empowerment. He described farmers, whom he called the country’s annadatas, or food providers, as among the strongest pillars of the nation.
“Today, another instalment of PM-KISAN has reached the accounts of farmers of the nation. Our farmers, our annadatas, are one of the strongest pillars of our country. Our government has always prioritised empowering our farmers,” he said.
He also said the country’s agriculture budget had increased more than five-fold compared with 2013-14, and that PM-KISAN had become an integral part of the lives of crores of small farmers. Reflecting on his years in public service, he told the gathering: “It has been 25 years since I began serving you.”
How the scheme works
PM-KISAN was launched in February 2019 as a central sector scheme with 100 percent central funding. It provides Rs 6,000 a year to eligible landholding farmer families, paid in three instalments of Rs 2,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer.
Eligibility depends on the family’s details being correctly recorded: landholding details seeded on the official portal, a linked bank account, and completed eKYC. The scheme is aimed at small and marginal farmer families, and the instalment is paid to the family as a unit, not per individual farmer.
How to check beneficiary status and complete eKYC
Farmers can check whether they are on the beneficiary list through the official PM-KISAN portal. In the Farmers Corner section, the Beneficiary List option asks for state, district, block and village, and then shows the names for that village. The Know Your Status option in the same section lets a registered farmer check the status of their own instalments.
E-KYC is mandatory for registered farmers. Three modes are available: OTP-based eKYC on the official portal and mobile app; biometric-based eKYC at Common Service Centres and State Seva Kendras; and face-authentication-based eKYC on the PM-KISAN mobile app. Farmers who have not completed eKYC will not receive the next instalment until it is done.
If the money has not arrived a few days after the release, farmers should check their status first, then confirm that their bank account is still active and linked, and that their land and eKYC details are up to date, before approaching their local agriculture office or Common Service Centre.
Why it matters
For crores of small farmer families, the Rs 2,000 instalment is timed support rather than a large sum: it lands between sowing and harvest costs, when cash is tightest. Paid directly into bank accounts, it avoids the delays and leakages that used to affect farm support routed through intermediaries.
The release also matters politically. Announced in Gujarat on the first day of a high-profile state visit, and paired with cattle-breeding, dairy, metro, road and rural-infrastructure projects, it puts farm welfare at the centre of the visit’s message. The MSP attack on previous governments, delivered at the same event, shows how closely the scheme is tied to the wider argument over who genuinely supports farmers.

What happens next
Watch for the money reaching accounts over the coming days. Direct Benefit Transfer is usually quick, but bank processing can stagger credits, so a short delay does not by itself mean a farmer is ineligible.
Watch the beneficiary count. If the number moves in later government updates, it will show whether verification drives added or removed names after this release.
And watch Ekta Nagar on October 31. The National Unity Day programme closes the Gujarat visit, and any further farm or rural announcements there will show whether the PM-KISAN release was a one-day event or the start of a wider farm-welfare push.
